Currently he leads The Barnes & Woldemichael Ethio-Jazz Quartet which features top ranking Ethiopian born saxophonist Mr. Girma Woldemichael. Ethiopian-Jazz Classics and Daniel's original compositions entwine for a truly International Jazz Sound . See "Ethiojazz" for more on that story. .
Daniel's dynamic sense, quality of sound, groove & versatility keep him active as a support drummer in Jazz & Global music fields.
Daniel is currently on tour in England & Europe with Ethiopian keyboard legend Mr. Hailu Mergia! He’s back to Toronto in June and his Ethio-Jazz band plays Hirut Cafe on June 17th.

About Daniel’s albums; A co-production with David Travers-Smith, his debut release “Culmination” (2003) was popular across the country on jazz radio. It features six original pieces and his arrangement on five jazz standards. Fifteen musicians, some of Canada’s finest, were harnessed. “a varied & interesting program” said Jim Galloway for Wholenote).
Daniel’s follow up "Classic Beauties” (2007) is melodic swinging jazz, classic in feel. All original compositions set for acoustic quintet.
