spDaniel’s deep groove, dynamic sense, superior sound and versatility keep him in demand as a drummer with a top echelon of jazz artists in Canada including Joe Sealy, Jackie Richardson, Holly Cole, Jane Bunnett, Richard Underhill, Micah Barnes, Heather Bambrick, Adi Braun & Colin Hunter, also backing visiting Americans Don Braden, Ron Westray, Dizzy Reese, Russ Nolan and others.
Daniel has earned distinction in Global/World Music having toured & recorded with three icons of Ethiopian music; Ms. Aster Aweke, Mr. Mahmoud Ahmed and Mr. Hailu Mergia. He drums on Aster's widely known concert video "Aster Aweke-Live in London" recorded at The Hammersmith Odeon in London England. He is the drummer on Mahmoud’s album “Tizita” and spent the summer of 2022 touring with Ethio-Jazz keyboard legend Hailu Mergia.
In Toronto Daniel spent a decade in The Flying Bulgar Klezmer Band, earning a Juno nomination for their CD “Sweet Return”. He has recorded for Egyptian Canadian artist Maryem Hassan, Yiddish cabaret diva Theresa Tova & has backed Venezuelan vocalist Eliana Cuevas.
Daniel’s self produced CD releases “Culmination” and “Classic Beauties” feature him as drummer, composer, arranger & producer. They've become a staple of jazz radio in Canada. Hear them under Music on this very website.
Daniel and his band have performed at the Toronto & Montreal International Jazz Festivals, been presented by The Aga Khan Museum, Ashkenaz, Habari Africa & Kensington Jazz Fest in Toronto, plus regularly in local venues.
Daniel plays Gretsch Drums, Murat Diril Cymbals and Headhunter Sticks and Creations exclusively.
