BARNES & WOLDEMICHAEL Ethio-Jazz Quartet

 —  —

Hirut Cafe & Restuarant, 2050 Danforth Avenue, Toronto

Combining ancient Ethiopian music traditions with American, Caribbean & Latin influences creates an international jazz sound suitable for the dancehall as much as the concert hall. Drummer & composer Daniel Barnes (Toronto) and Saxophonist Girma Woldemichael (Ethiopia) began working together during the ’90’s, touring internationally with an icon of Ethiopian culture, vocalist Aster Aweke. Daniel’s original music, written from an Ethiopian perspective, alongside genre classics, cherished support musicians and Girma’s “real deal” sound, make this Canada’s foremost Ethiojazz group!
